Rehearsal & Performance Year
At the end of Summer Choral Camp, members are invited to join the SCC for the upcoming Choir season in one of two choirs; the Preparatory Choir or the Senior Choir.
The Savannah Children’s Choir rehearses Monday afternoons at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1802 Abercorn Street (34th & Abercorn).
The Preparatory Choir (Prep) is designed for younger or less experienced musicians. In weekly one- hour rehearsals, members build on their sight singing abilities learned in Summer Choral Camp, and learn how breathing, posture and how they form their words work together to produce a beautiful sound. Prep Choir musicians sing unison, two part and sometimes three part music.
The Prep Choir performs annually at All Saints Tybee, during the Feast of St. Francis, at the Jepson Gospel Brunch, the annual Holiday Concert, at the Artist in Residence concert, and during the Spring Concert series. The Prep Choir also takes an annual tour.
The Senior Choir, designed for older or more experienced musicians, rehearses for two hours every Monday, and focuses on building repertoire and advanced singing techniques. Senior Choir sings more complex music, from unison to four-part songs. Senior Choir members perform in the Jepson Gospel Brunch, the annual Holiday Concert, Artist in Residence concert, Spring Concert series, and other engagements when requested. The Senior Choir also travels annually to participate in national and international music festivals and competitions.
All members of the Savannah Children’s Choir are expected to maintain a “B” or better grade in every subject, and community volunteers are available to offer tutoring at no charge to any child requesting help.
In the late winter of each year, the SCC offers intensive audition preparation for all members wishing to audition to the Savannah Arts Academy for high school. To date, 100% of our members who applied and auditioned were accepted into the Savannah Arts Academy.
